About Dr. Irene Escobar-Galvez
Latina Therapist in Austin, TX
Hola! I’m Dr. Irene Escobar-Galvez.
I’m a bilingual, bicultural Latina psychologist who helps BIPOC (Black, Indigenous, and People of Color), first-gen Latinos and adult children of immigrants navigate anxiety, cultural identity challenges, and the pressure to have it all “figured out.” If you’ve ever felt caught between your family's expectations and your own dreams, or like you’re constantly pushing yourself but never feeling enough, you’re not alone — and you don’t have to carry it all by yourself.
I know how heavy the emotional labor can be when you’re the go-to person for everyone else, but you’re still struggling silently. As a Latina who grew up in an immigrant household, I understand the complex intersection of culture, family, and mental health. I draw from both professional expertise and my lived experiences to offer therapy that sees the whole you — your story, your strength, and your struggle.
My mission is to help you untangle generational messages, reconnect with your values, and build a more peaceful, grounded relationship with yourself — one where you don’t have to choose between honoring your roots and living authentically.
My Approach to Therapy
Starting therapy can feel vulnerable, especially if you’ve been taught to “keep it together” or “be strong.” That’s why my approach is centered around creating a warm, welcoming space where you feel safe enough to show up as your full self — not just the “put-together” version.
I work collaboratively with you, meaning we’re in this together. You bring your insight and lived experience; I bring tools, curiosity, and a deep respect for your journey. I integrate culturally sensitive practices, always honoring the values, traditions, and family dynamics that shape who you are.
I also incorporate evidence-based approaches like Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), and mindfulness to help you better understand your thoughts, regulate your emotions, and build self-compassion.
Ultimately, therapy with me is about more than symptom relief — it’s about reconnecting with your voice, finding clarity, and creating a life that actually feels like yours.
My goal is to help you feel seen and heard, and to walk alongside you as you discover your strengths, develop coping strategies, and work toward lasting emotional well-being.
